Paranormal Activity Echoes Blair Witch Formula

The terror du jour is "Paranormal Activity," but it's following the recipe set out by the made-in-Maryland "Blair Witch Project" a decade ago. It's a haunted-house movie, not a haunted forest film like "Blair Witch." But the catch-as-catch-can style, the mood of growing dread, and the conceit that audiences are seeing footage found after the demise of the characters are straight from the "Blair Witch" game plan.

No one recognizes the similarities more acutely than Montgomery County native and Frederick resident Eduardo Sanchez, who co-directed "The Blair Witch Project" (with Daniel Myrick).

A Tweance? Oh PULEEEAAZE

Chris Matyszczyk put out an article about a "forward thinking" (I'd call it a splendiferous publicity goof) psychic who is going to take questions for dead celebrities on Oct. 30 th, and then return answers from said dead celebs.

Sounds like a psychic gang-bang, in this girl's opinion. I've been doing readings for decades and the absurdity of the suggested channelled info is just that...absurd.

Aside from my personal feelings on the idea, it's being put on by a costume/ fancy dress online store. Yep, psychic connection.

Stonehenge - More like Stonegrave

No doubt there are going to be some ticked off pagans and druids, considering the news piece I found the other day. Seems our beloved Stonehenge isn't a sacred spot as in religious; in fact, it's a burial complex.

Maybe the vamps, zombies and mummies will lay claim...

Stonehenge, an enigma to visitors and scientists alike for so many years, became less of a mystery after a discovery announced to the world this week.

A stone circle discovered near Stonehenge may suggest the prehistoric monument was part of a funeral route.

Archaeologists have unearthed a new stone circle near Stonehenge that lends credence to the theory that the famous prehistoric monument in Britain was part of a funeral complex.
University of Bristol archaeologist Joshua Pollard described the new find as "incredible" because it establishes Stonehenge as part of a larger ceremonial complex linked to the nearby River Avon.

Coconut Grove Ghosts and Ireland's Freemasons

When the Deering Estate at Cutler wanted to probe its historic grounds and houses for paranormal activity after employees and guests ``saw things,'' who did they call?
The League of Paranormal Investigators, that's who. The League, LPI for short, formed by Ed de Jong and Atena Komar in February 2008 out of their home on Grand Avenue in Coconut Grove, handled about 20 cases in its first year.

Standing Broom - Paranormal or Other

This is one of the most appealing "supernatural" stories I've seen in the media in a long time. The broom in this story rivals the naughty brooms in Disney's Fantasia.

Check it out -

PRATTVILLE, Ala. -- Buzz about a broom standing upright and unsupported at a downtown Prattville business is sweeping the town.

Several hundred people have stopped by Vintage Blu, a yet-to-be-opened consignment shop, since the phenomenon was discovered Aug. 20. Dozens of theories to explain what's going on have been thrown out. There must be glue on the bristles of the broom, or there are magnets in the floor working in concert with the buildings electrical system, or maybe ... just maybe ... it's something from beyond at work.

"I think it's more strange than spooky," said Christy Burdett, the shop's owner, who has been working for several weeks to get the business open. "But it's been fun."

No, there isn't any glue, and there are no magnets in the floor. As to something otherworldly going on, people will have to use their own judgment.

It all started out innocently enough. The broom was leaning against a set of mobile shelves when Della Benton, Burdett's sister, moved the shelves on Aug. 20. When Benton looked back, she was surprised to see the broom standing on the floor.

(I hope someone remembers to check for magnetic anomalies in the area, underground, high wires, etc. -I'd guess the handle of the broom is metal)

Grange Haunts - Connecticut

SOUTHINGTON - As Ann Bernard walked through the basement of the Grange Hall just after 10 p.m. Saturday, one of the dowsing rods in her hand began to spin.

Other members of her team rushed over to take readings on meters. While the New England Ghost Hunter's Guild had plenty of activity, it stopped short of declaring the building haunted until members could go over all their recordings.

"When I walk over here I get a really bad vibe, like we shouldn't be here," member Jon Annear said while walking through the kitchen in the basement. "You have to be careful what you look for."

Ghost Hunters - Pay Attention To Warnings

Once again we have a situation where amateur ghost seekers go trapsing through private property in search of the paranormal. Any decent ghost investigation team will know to phone ahead, take heed of warning signs and make damn sure they have permission to be there.

The amateurs are making it difficult for the rest of us. This is just going to continue to get more difficult given the nature of the hobby and the incredible rise in groups offering investigation.

quote -

TORRANCE, Pa. - State police are warning trespassers to stay away from a former state mental hospital in western Pennsylvania where some people go looking for ghosts.
The former Torrance State Hospital building in Derry Township closed in the late 1960s.
But in a news release Monday, police say trespassing continues to be a problem "due to people believing it is haunted."

Cop Paranormal Experiences

Spirit Of The Badge

A new book out that discusses stories of paranormal experience by cops.

"It started as a routine traffic stop by two Detroit police officers, but seconds later, bullets from an Uzi-style submachine gun came screaming into their vehicle, piercing the hood and doors and shattering the windshield. Then something really weird happened. The cop behind the wheel has no other explanation but to call it a divine mystery. The remarkable story is part of Ingrid P. Dean’s new book, Spirit of the Badge: 60 True Police Stories of Divine Guidance, Miracles & Intuition, from Topaz Heart Publishing LLC. While Dean’s stories delve into the paranormal, her credibility is enhanced by her day job: she’s a detective sergeant for the Michigan State Police." read
